Anaconda is a common name given to large snakes living in the tropical regions of South America, known for their aquatic habitat and constricting nature. When referring to anaconda, it usually implies the green anaconda (Eunectes murinus). Also called sucuri or water kamudi, this snake is olive green with black oval spots and is the largest snake in the world in terms of weight and the second longest after the reticulated python. Anacondas lie in wait in the water, often at night, to ambush animals such as caimans, capybaras, deer, tapirs, and peccaries that come to the water’s edge. They catch their prey by seizing it by the neck and then coil around it, suffocating it. They kill small prey by biting with their sharp teeth, which point backwards.”
